Gemini employs machine learning algorithms to analyze facial features from photographs, generating synthetic portraits of hypothetical children that blend characteristics from multiple subjects. The AI-processed images are printed onto vegetable-tanned leather that has been wet-formed into three-dimensional shapes, creating a sculptural surface for the digital imagery. The leather molding process involves soaking full-grain hides and shaping them over custom forms, allowing the material to retain complex curves as it dries. Once set, the leather provides a tactile, organic substrate for the digitally-generated portraits, creating a deliberate contrast between ancient craft techniques and contemporary AI technology.
