Body Accordion - Image 1

DESCRIPTION

The piece incorporates flex sensors positioned along the body that detect bending and movement, sending analog resistance values to an Arduino microcontroller for processing. The Arduino transmits sensor data to MaxMSP, where custom patches map flex values to musical parameters. The processed data flows into Ableton Live for final sound generation and real-time performance control. The wearable structure is fabricated using digital tools to create a form that allows free movement while maintaining sensor contact. As the wearer moves, bends, and gestures, their body becomes a playable instrument generating live musical compositions. The piece premiered at Boston Fashion Week 2013 and was subsequently featured at New York Fashion Week 2014, demonstrating the intersection of fashion, performance, and interactive music technology.
